About zDMF
Combining volumes onto new, large volume capacity storage subsystems is difficult, time consuming and requires taking revenue generating
applications offline for the duration of the migration. zDMF provides the solution you need to migrate and consolidate datasets.
zDMF moves datasets without disrupting access to applications. zDMF makes it easy to combine smaller capacity volumes to better utilize storage,
helps to increase available system resources, supports implementation of tiered storage, and can be used to improve application performance for
service level compliance. The ability to move datasets non-disruptively simplifies many of the challenges associated with data migration today,
removing the extensive downtime planning required.
What's New in zDMF v3.1?
- Reliability, scalability, recoverability improvements
- Extent Consolidation (Single Volume)
Provide an option whereby the customer may request, where possible, for multiple source extent data sets to be
consolidated into fewer (1 if possible) target extents. Reducing the number of extents will allow data
sets increased expansion capability and additional reduces fragmentation of volumes.
- HyperSwap Support
This enhancement will allow zDMF to support HyperSwap volumes without customers having to disable HyperSwap.
- Cleanup of Source Data Sets
The benefit is to reduce the time and effort required to delete source data sets which is currently a manual process.
